Whitby Calendar: I was looking for free speech but I didn't get it !

I was installing CCTV into a hotel in Whitby this week, and everything was going well until I got to the end of the job when they asked for a telephone speech dialler which basically rings up to 9 different telephones if the security alarm is activated. They wanted one of the more expensive ones which works over the mobile network like a mobile phone and doesn't need a telephone line.

Once this is hidden somewhere it cannot be stopped by burglars cutting the telephone line. I've used them before and I thought there would be no problem. I wired the device to the security system and programmed it and it didn't work. I tried over and over and over again to get the thing to work, telephoning the technical helpline on numerous occasions and literally must've spent two hours messing about with before I realised why !

As they say the penny suddenly dropped! I realised by using the mobile Sim card from my own contract phone the device did work. I had bought a pay as you go Sim card, because obviously the telephone dialler will not be ringing out very often hopefully! I paid £2.00 a local shop for the mobile Sim card which I thought was quite cheap, but I'd forgotten that you have to actually pre pay for the credits to be put on the card for it to work! What a dummy I felt :-)
