The human brain, a strange thing

I'm a big fan of Whitby and I have numerous websites, Facebook and Twitter accounts dedicated to the old town. Anyway about a year ago I was talking to a friend who like myself is Into search engine optimisation, which sounds extremely boring but it's actually quite challenging and fun in some ways. It's the strategies of trying to get your website at the top of the search engines where everybody can goggle…hopefully.

Anyway back to the friend he suggested that I should use a auto respond on my websites which is just a piece of software that collect e-mails of people who subscribe to the subject of the website, so that you can send them information collectively.

At the time I thought yes probably a good idea and I have a little look at what was available at them basically just put the whole thing on the backburner.

Then just recently for some reason like a light bulb been switched on in my dim 40 watt brain I suddenly realised that this could be very useful for everybody. If you have a website dedicated to a particular subject or a Facebook account of course people visited occasionally, though we all lead busy lives so a lot will be missed if you update it. But if you can just send out an e-mail when some interesting relevant information occurs, it will land in their e-mail inbox and they will probably see it. So I've just placed an auto sender on the on two of my Whitby themed websites and immediately I'm collecting e-mail addresses of people that are interested in news updates.

Just sent out a newsletter pointing out the dates for the 40s weekend in Whitby in April this year and I was pleased to receive an e-mail back from a woman called Sandra will really loves the 40 and Whitby so she's planning a weekend at the event, good result!

It's just strange that sometimes you don't grasp how effective certain strategies can be an overlooked them and all of a sudden it becomes very obvious what you've missed.

I wonder what else I should be doing in life that would make a big difference with my little hobbies?

If you would be interested in news updates and tourist information on good old Whitby, or any possible reduce last-minute cancellations for Endeavour Cottage Whitby.
All the best Alan
