Whitby tourist information come to a conclusion soon

The focus of this Whitby calendar blog it to everybody updated with the latest tourist information.

So speak is subject of tourist information, it finally looks like the future of Whitby's tourist information centre will come to a conclusion soon.

The building in Langborne Road was to be used by Scarborough Borough Council, allowing it to close its Skinner Street offices.

This decision was stopped because of the current economic climate it felt is would be unable to secure the £300,000 it would need from the sale.

A new idea has been suggested for the office to be used to sell tickets for the North York Moors Railway and for a drop-in centre used by the police.

Their seemingly has been a verbal report, council members Customer First manager Janet Deacon said she had met with the North York Moors National Park Authority who were interested in using the space within the TIC currently used as an information desk.

The report is stated to have said: “If the scheme went ahead, an audio/visual presentation would be located in this area which would provide information on the National Park, Whitby and history of the area.

“In addition, a display of static information would be available and this would include visitor information including leaflets.

“It was anticipated that this would bring in around £12,000 to £13,000 of revenue for the council.”

A report will come back to the council’s cabinet next month when members will consider all options for the future of the building.
